Hannah has been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. in school and this has sparked a huge interest in the Civil Rights movement. We have been checking out books from the library and her teacher has been sending home a special book stash with Hannah. She keeps asking me to tell her more stories. She has read about Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, and Ruby Bridges to name a few. We have been singing songs and even making up a few here and there. This has been really interesting for me in that 1) I have had to pre-view a lot of this material since obviously some is not appropriate for a first grader and 2) it has been really tough trying to answer her questions.... Questions like why did people act that way? Ahh... if only grown-ups could see the world through the eyes of a kid...what a better place this would be!
