Operation Christmas Child

This year we participated in Operation Christmas Child an event held by an organization called Samaritans Purse. The way it works is that you fill a shoe box with gifts and notes of encouragement and then they will pass it on to a needy child in a 3rd world country. We have done this quite a few times and this year had Lauren and Mia help out. We picked the girls up after school and headed to one of our favorite stores, TARGET and did a little shopping. The girls had so much fun picking out things for their boxes! Later that night we packed the boxes and then wrote notes to put inside them. I talked to the girls about what a big deal it is to help others and even though they are little kids they can still do really cool things. Then I read the Littlest Angel to them- one of my favorites from when I was a kid- and we talked about how when we show kindness to people , we may never know the impact that it can have on them or how it can change them. It was a great night and I think that the girlies really got a taste of what it was like to give unconditional love. What a great way to start the holiday season! Pictures are : 1- girlies with the loot, 2- Haley and Lauren showing their packed box, 3- Hopie and her box, 4- Mia and Hannah and their box, 5-Lauren and Haley using those first grade skills and writing letters to their new friends, 6- Mia and Hope writting letters, 7- Hannah writing a letter, 8- a shot down the counter.
