Corrupting our youth...

Today was a great day...I was able to school the girls in the fine art of skipping class! I must admit that it was great fun the few times that I did it in High school. My favorite one was when I skipped class to visit my newborn niece Stephanie. My brother was at work and my sister-in-law let me and my friends in to visit with the understanding that we were on our own if we got caught! ( Which we didn't by the way... ). Then there were the skips in college- WAAYYY too many to count! Spring term and 8:00 a.m classes never did really "work" for me. Especially since we were only an hour away from the beach and the thought of going never really hit me until the night before. So because of a late night beach run or just the fact that I'm not a morning person by nature.... skipping became an art form in college! And now, today, I got to pass on the joys of skipping to the girls. Now I know what some of you must be thinking- Deb, you were a teacher for goodness sake! You of all people should know the value of showing up to class and the importance of a good education. You should be more responsible than that! Well, let me explain a bit. This morning the girls had a dentist appointment so I took the day off from babysitting. I had just my 3 all day long. We went to the dentist, then stopped by one of our favorite stores to buy Easter dresses- so so so fun to take 3 girlie girls to buy frilly dresses! I felt like I was on project runway or something! I loved watching their eyes light up when they came out of the dressing room and looked in the mirror. The princess waves and twirls were a bonus and the giggles... ahhh loved it! Then we were starving of course so we hit Denny's- (are we gourmet or what?) for our brunch. After brunch we decided that going to school for 2 hours really was rather silly so I introduced them to the "mental health absence". I love that phrase. When I was a teacher in Tennessee we got a sick day per month and 3 personal or "mental health" days throughout the year. Days that we needed to keep us sane, grounded, and to remember to have fun. So, we came home, all read our individual books for about an hour then had a Barbie movie marathon ( I could only handle 2 movies.. even I have my limits!) So, I have no regrets for today. It was a wonderful day and I'm so glad we did it. Now will I have the same attitude when (not if) they try this in High School? Probably not. And when they skip in college? Let's face it, in college I won't even know- but for today it was good to skip!

So happy to relive the skipping school stories. You survived skipping Deb and did well...remember in years to come and smile. Know the dresses are adorable and the girls will be show stoppers. Eager to see you all.
