Here we are in LaPaz. We drove from Todos Santos ( Pacific side) to LaPaz ( Sea of Cortez side) and the first day arranged for our adventure the next day. Plan A was to go swimming with the sea lions, eat lunch on an island, then snorkel. The weather was not working with us and it was way to windy. They would not even consider taking us to the sea lion colony so instead we came up with plan B. Plan B was to go Sea kayaking/ bird watching, snorkeling and hiking. Sounded good to us so we headed out for fish tacos. :-)
The next day our adventure began and what an adventure it was! The birdwatching came off without a hitch! It was amazing to be that close to such beautiful animals! The kayaking was so much fun! We headed toward the open sea- not in it but out of our cove to the next one over so that we could snorkel. On the way the wind picked up and we were kayaking in whitecaps! Mario our guide said we should probably turn back so we did and what a blast it was actually "surfing on those waves!" We were laughing and having a blast then all of a sudden we were under water! Yep, we flipped our kayak- I lost 1 flip flop and my sunglasses and when we finally came to the surface sputtering Scott and I both looked at each other and asked about the camera! It was in a wet bag and just fine! Whew! We swam/body surfed into the shore and Mario went on a chase for the poles/kayak equipment that was floating in the sea. He said he turned around and saw us laughing, then turned around and we were gone!
We made it to shore and decided to take a quick hike ( excuse to pee) then had lunch. Mario let me use his shoes and he hiked barefoot! (Big tip for him!!) After lunch we kayaked across the bay back to the van and put on our hiking gear. We visited lots of great viewpoints and ended up on lovers beach. I asked "why is it called that?" and Mario said "because it's so secluded that you could do just about anything here"... to that I'm sure I turned beat red and answered "oh." I guess I asked for it! haha!
We ended our hike by going under the cliff and beside mushroom rock- pretty famous for the area. This was a great day! I loved our plan B!
