The dentist

Last week I took the girls to the dentist. We go to a wonderful dentist, Dr. Cook. He specializes in kids and has done it for years. The staff is great with the kids and we just love it!- ok, I just love it.. the girls... well, not so much. Hannah did pretty well with it- afterall she has been doing this the longest, Haley would rather have stayed in school, but was a trouper. Hope was very, very vocal about not wanting to embrace the dental experience. So much so that when we were at the apt, Hope was given a special room " the quiet room" for her exam. She wouldn't even sit in the chair, so I sat in the chair, Hope laid down on top of me, and then the assistant cleaned her teeth. That worked really well, but when Dr. Cook came in he wanted Hope to sit alone in the chair, that was not in her plans for the day... so I held her, then tipped her backwards for the floride treatment. Hope screamed the entire time but did as she was instructed. I think the dentist's words were " well, she may be defiant, but she's also compliant!" He also made some crack to the effect that her curls were deceiving and that deep down she was a true redhead. We had a good laugh on that one. She is so darn cute, but boy... where does that temper come from?! She survived the "teeth painting" as she calls it, got her balloon, sticker, new toothbrush and then announced to me at the car that "I'm never going there again in my whole, entire life mom!". Her sister's were more than happy to remind her that we go twice a year and we'll be back in March. Aren't older siblings fun?! They all got a "no cavity" award - so I have 6 months to convince Hope that it was fun to go to the dentist and maybe next time we could do it without needing the sound proof room! :-) I'm not sure if that is enough time- haha.

Oh I feel your pain, sister! I were in the soundproof room with both of them. You would think the dentist was torturing the poor children. They are due again. Do I dare...? =) Maybe you can come down and hold them for me. =) =) =)

Ummm, so Sam just had his first appointment this week and he asked the dentist to pull out all his front teeth so he could look like James. He was in complete compliance with the whole process because he kept thinking his teeth were going to get pulled out so that he would look like broder.

Your trip to the dentist brings back memories. Paul hit the dentist! The floride treatment made some sick and I remember stopping along the way home so some could vomit. Oh, my what fun memories can be as time passes.
So important to go but I can empathiyze with the girls especially Hope, ha!
