I thought that I'd take a second and update family and friends on our next phase of life. Due to the bummer economy, Scott will be done working at Walking Adventures full time the end of this month. The travel biz has been hit hard and Walking Adventures is scaling back dramatically. It is really hard to leave this job since it was an ideal fit for him, but there are a few positives that we see as well in this news. First that we get to stay together as a family- no more weekly commutes for Scott, and secondly, we don't have to move from the neighborhood and community that we love.
The obvious question we are facing now is.. "Now What?" and we have an answer.. or at least part of an answer! Scott is moving forward on becoming a certified loan officer and will be helping people secure mortgages for their homes or businesses. Now I realize that to some this may sound like a crazy time to get in the home loan business due again to our wonderful economy.. but the truth of the matter is that the rates are very low right now ( under 5%) and lots of people are refinancing. So this is an ideal time to get into this business and see if it is for us.
Scott will take his test hopefully next week then start working with a local mortgage firm here in Puyallup. They are very excited for him to start and are very encouraging. Scott has always been a math wiz so I'm sure that this number crunching will come easily for him. This will be a part of our new normal, as it is a commission job and we like to eat regularly- haha... maybe a bit too regularly for yours truly.. but that's another post entirely. Scott is also looking for another full/part time job to do in conjunction with the loan business until it gets off the ground and I am moving forward with my certification to teach in the state of Washington. I loved teaching and had planned on going back.. just not this soon but we'll see.
So, all of this is to say, that if you are thinking of refinancing or know someone who is, or if you are going to buy or know someone who is... you now have a friend in the business. We sure would appreciate any of you crazy blogging buddies ( you know who you are) to pass the word along since referrals are the best way to drum up business. :-) Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers and please continue to do so as we piece together the rest of our "puzzled life". It's an adventure but one we are glad to be on together!

Thanks for the update, Deb! I'm sure Scott will do fine on the certification test - you know how the Isom boys love to be accurate...
Still praying for you guys and happy that you'll get back to something like the normal you knew. I liked the idea of having you guys closer, but I'm also a big fan of how you have connected with your neighborhood and think it's great that you don't have to leave it.
And just think - you actually have a chance of having your name pronounced correctly when you take up teaching again. The last batch of kids you had in school called you "Mizz Ahzum," didn't they?
Love the new hair styles...they are beautiful. Happy Scott is ready to take the certification test...he will do well. Glad too that you'll be able to stay in your delightful neighborhood...you have such a great ministry going on there. Happy you have a new normal...
I'm sorry things are not working out well with the tours business. These are such crazy times. How great (for you & your neighbors, anyway!) that you won't have to move though. I know God has a plan for you and your family, even when things seem uncertain.
