We were so excited to make spur of the moment plans for the beach! We found a crazy deal for a hotel- with an indoor pool and breakfast I might add! When the girls woke up Saturday morning we told them what we were up to and they were just a wee bit excited. I'm sure that the family in the mid-west could hear their screams of delight! So within an hour and a half of waking... we had the van loaded, kids fed and were headed out.. or so we thought. We made it to the gas station.. not for gas mind you but for Scott's addiction of Diet Pepsi. I couldn't really complain since I got a coffee out of the deal too! It was while we were there that I realized that I didn't pack my coat. So, after our quick stop, we headed back home... for the first time.
After we got the coat, we made it about 2 miles from home when the car started to smoke and stink. We turned around and drove right into our neighbor's driveway. James is a mechanic and a life saver. After getting him out of bed early on a Saturday, his assessment was that might be a hose but due to the placement, the engine may need to be removed to fix it. I guess it is actually some sore to connection to a lot of hoses? Who knows... all I heard was not drivable. We were resigning ourselves to the fact that we wouldn't be able to go after all... and would loose the money we put down too.. that is until Sabrina , James' wife, started to clean out their truck. They just assumed that we would borrow it for the beach and still go!... And people wonder why I never want to leave this neighborhood!? So, we got into the truck after much hugging and "you guys rock!".... and headed out of town.
We made it to Ocean Shores a few hours later and had a wonderful time! Scott, bless his heart, was trying not to think of the van and the repairs that it needed, really it was the cost factor that was getting him, but he started to breathe a little better once we hit the beach. I think that forcing him to listen to James Taylor the entire way really helped his blood pressure! He was taking pictures of the girls and I on this great log that we found. We were all over that thing striking different poses etc. and then I suggested that he get in a few shots. Well, the poor guy sat down on the log right in a dog log! Now how a dog pooped on this huge log is beyond me... and how the girls and I missed it for 20 minutes is a miracle in itself! But Saturday was just not Scott's day so he was the lucky one to get pooped! He changed after trying to wash off in the ocean and we all had a good laugh... some of us sooner than others! :-)
The rest of the time was quite uneventful -thank the Lord! We played, made a fort, sand castles, flew a kite and found lots of cool treasures on the beach. Our favorite was a "really cool jar"... which was really a whisky bottle but the girls didn't know that so we brought it home and washed it up.. and 2 complete sand dollars!
We finished up Saturday with fish and chips dinner and a dip in the pool! Boy did we sleep well last night! This morning we ate the motel breakfast then hit the beach for one last walk. The girls and I never want to leave but reality was calling!
It was a great birthday treat and an adventure that none of us will soon forget!

Sounds like the kind of vacations we took. We figured the neighbors would be disappointed if we didn't return at least twice before we actually got on the road. So glad you have great neighbors, and that good memories were made! Love, Poquaw and Granny
That sounds awesome! I love it when things work out like that and what an amazing neighbor, that's awesome. Glad to hear you had a great Beachy Birthday (between what Judy gave you, what I gave you and this, your Beach theme was complete!) :)
Why are all beach pictures just so darn cute! I would've liked a video of the poop ordeal.
