What a week we have had! Scott got back last Friday, and we hit the beach on Monday! It took him a few days to catch up with the rest of us but we were so glad he was able to come! Brigetta pulled some strings and got us a beach house that was wonderful! We would make the 5 hour drive any time! :-) hint hint!
The first day the weather was great! We were able to play on the beach, chase waves, make sand castles, and even had smores that night with a real campfire! The next day wasn't so picture perfect as far as the weather goes.. but hey, we were on vacation, with family, and at the beach for cryin' out loud... we are Northwesterners... we weren't going to let a little liquid sunshine ruin our time!... so we loaded up the kids and hit Tillamook cheese factory. We did the tour and saw how cheese and more importantly ICE CREAM is made.. then had a few samples of both! It was so yummy! We left the camera in the car but that mudslide ice cream will be in my memory for a very long time... not to mention my hips! haha!
The third day we decided to brave the elements and in true Isom form go for a hike. We drove to the nearest lighthouse and walked the nice paved trail. We were pleasantly surprised to find it open, giving tours, and full of friendly rangers. We had a tour and got to walk up where the light was etc. etc. it was a lot of fun. Maybe not so much for Brigetta who was stuck in the gale force winds with Scout wondering where in the world we had gone to...but once we emerged from the lighthouse, she had a turn and it all made sense. :-) After the lighthouse experience, we were leaning toward skipping the hike to the famous octopus tree and just go home. The weather was so cold and rainy.. and the wind was crazy! Hannah really was interested in that tree so she and I hiked up to it and snapped a few pictures. I was hoping that we could climb it but no such luck. We all made it home and started the thawing out process followed by naps. During nap time Scott and I went on a quick date. I made him walk on the beach with me... and boy was it wet! My jeans were dripping wet so I took them off and rode around town looking for a froo froo coffee in my undies, wool socks, and about 4 layers on top.... so funny! We cranked up the heat and found a drive thru coffee shop, and I got my mocha and all was right with the world. We sat at an overlook and caught up on life while he'd been to Egypt.
The last day we spent cleaning up, then had one last beach walk. We stopped by Granny and Poqua's on the way home and it was great to see them! It had been almost 4 months!!!! We were so tired when we pulled in the drive but what a great adventure!
