We had a pretty uneventful ride from Springfield to Wichita. The girls saw lots and lots of new things, like oil wells pumping oil, and corn, and more corn, and even more corn! We stopped at St. Paul, Kansas and there is a huge Catholic church. We walked the grounds and talked about all the statutes, many telling the Easter story. I don't think that Hannah really appreciated all of the crucifix but Haley was full of questions. Hope liked the angels and so we looked at them a lot!
After stretching our legs we got back into the van and headed west. Our last stop before Wichita was a rest area where we were on top of a bluff and could see forever! The girls loved it here and thought that the scenery was just beautiful! ( much to the horror of their father I'm sure.. not a
mountain in sight for miles and miles!
haha) We arrived at Aunt Sisters late Sunday evening just in time to fall into bed. It was a good day.. but 5-6 hours in the van was plenty! :)
Monday morning I thought that it would be fun to do something exciting with the kids... boy did we get exciting! Mom and I took the girls to the zoo. It was a great zoo with lots of different animals than back home! We got there at about 11:00 and I was so happy to see a parking spot right up close to the entrance. What I quickly learned once we got out of the car was that it was 101 degrees and
waaayyy humid! It seems that the local people were smart enough to look at the weather forecast before making any plans! But, we were determined to have fun and we did!
When we first arrived we took the tram ride around the zoo to see what they had and to get
familiar with the lay of the land. This was great!

After the tram our first stop was to see the monkeys! The
Chimpanzees I thought would be a great place to start! After renting a double stroller.... I had Hope and Haley sit while I wheeled them right up to the glass of the monkey cage. We were talking about the cute monkey, and wondering what he was thinking... he just sat there staring at us for the longest time. And then... he took a rubber stool that they had in there and threw it at the window then ran to the window, hit it as hard as he could and ran around like ..... well, a crazy animal! After about 5 minutes he went back and sat down, I guess to start the outburst all over again! We didn't stick around to see it but we heard it as other children screamed in horror as the crazy ape smacked the glass just inches from their faces! Looking back on it now, it's pretty funny, but it wasn't funny when all 3 girls, my mom and I have to admit even I screamed and jumped at his outburst! I'm sure that Hope will never look at the cute monkey's in her room that she has named after her cousins Charming and Sammy boy the same again!

We also saw a hippo! Two of them actually! We loved watching them wiggle their little ears, and even tho their water was pretty
murky, it was so hot that it almost looked tempting!.... almost!

They had about 5 giraffe's and they were so close! It was fun to see them eat things with their long black
tongues and to bend down by spreading their legs in a split to get some food that had fallen. It's amazing to me that they don't tip over!

We walked
through the
Australian section of the zoo and saw tons and tons of beautiful birds! They were flying all around us! I wish that I had Scott's camera to really capture the colors!

As if the zoo wasn't enough
excitement for one day, when we got home Haley decided that she wanted to pull her loose tooth. Dad was ready to help so they tied floss around the tooth, and gave it a yank and my baby has lost her first tooth! A month before she starts
Kindergarten! It's almost too many milestones at one time! She did great and wanted to see her tooth for the next day about every 5 minutes. We are waiting to get home to show Scott before we give it up to the tooth fairy!

Haley sporting her new grin with dad and Aunt sister. That is a visit that we won't forget! Way to go Haley!

Ok, so is your aunt's actual name "Sister" or is that just a nickname that stuck?
