A question that we seem to be getting a lot these days is "where will you go to church?" Now that Scott is not in the paid ministry and has accepted his new job with Walking Adventures it seems a logical question for folks to be asking. We are taking a new look at church and what it means to "do" church. Last Sunday we had family church. For family church we got the kids together, had 2 pieces of paper and had Hope draw a smiley face on one and Haley a frownie face on the other.
Scott read Ephesians 4:29,31-32 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up aording to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
We then discussed and explained what this meant and put special words in either the smiley face page or the frowny face page. We talked about encouraging people and how it makes you feel and that the reason we do this is because Jesus told us to.
Then we went out for a day of encouragement and compassion and building others up. In the car we listened to a kids cd I have of encouraging songs, I can't stinkin' believe that I found this one on playlist. The cheesey song you just heard was actually one that we have. It's great for kids but I can't quite seem to get Will Farrell as the music teacher out of my mind when I hear it.... but I digress....we pointed out when family members were encouraging or compassionate to each other and we started our adventure.
Our first stop was at Connals Dalia farm in Tacoma. The place is in full bloom and beautiful! We talked about how we might encourage someone by taking them a bouquet and decided to head off to visit my Great Cousin Lee in the nursing home.
